PizzaExpress is celebrating the launch of its exciting new look restaurant in Hitchin. Conveniently located in the town’s Market Place, the family friendly restaurant has been totally transformed with a fresh new décor and contemporary fixtures and fittings. We couldn’t wait to get over to Hitchin and try it out, whilst trying out their autumn menu of course.

The super renovations

So what’s changed? Well, they have new artwork on the walls inspired by the PizzaExpress history over the last 50 years. The furniture has been re-upholstered and the tiles have all been replaced. I loved the new black and white theme, around the kitchen and the toilets too. It matched the shirts of the chef! I couldn’t help but snap a selfie. It felt really vibrant with the bold colours of the upholstery and the really funky feature chairs. There is a new timber floor, which makes the restaurant look bigger and cleaner – which is great.

The staff at Hitchin are fabulous and you can tell they loved the new look and the new menu too. The cleaners kept the toilets cleaned throughout our trip which was nice, great to know that they are being looked after. Everyone was very helpful and our meal was perfect. Noah loved the balloons by our booth too!

The super Autumn menu

The Autumn menu includes the new Basilicata Romana lamb meatball pizza and the welcome return of the Rustichella Romana pizza, as well as for me, the vegetarian Al Forno Cannelloni. We tried the lovely new coleslaw side dish too, it went really well with our mains. The new dessert on the menu is a rich and intense warm Chocolate Fondant which is super delicious. The Piccolo menu is full of tasty choices including ‘Create Your Own’ pizza, and starts at just £3.95. The children had loads in their meals, including: dough balls (their favourite), their own pizza choices and a fabulous chocolate brownie with a babyccino. All whilst decorating and solving puzzles from the Piccolo menu. I love the Crayola Twistables that come with the meals.

Our menu choices

You can check out all of our menu choices online by looking at the PizzaExpress main menu section. Dean went for Calamari for starters and we shared the dough balls formaggi. Then he chose the new Basilicata Romana and said it was absolutely delicious. The shavings of Gran Milano looked very effective with the scattered rocket.

I chose Bruschetta con Funghi for my starter, which is absolutely delicious and if you’re reading this PizzaExpress I would definitely choose this from the main menu if it was on there! I went for something slightly different this time around, I chose my favourite Formaggi pizza on a classic base, but added mushrooms and it was heaven. Mushrooms are my favourite if you hadn’t already guessed. I finished up with a Latte and a chocolate brownie, from the dolcetti menu (did you know you can order from the dolcetti menu and use your Tesco vouchers?).
