We have loved doing up our home over the past year. One of the major spaces we have changed is our master bedroom and obviously it is the space that not many people see. It looked completely different from when we moved in; vibrant pink and a 40 plus year old carpet. We have truly given it a makeover and some love.

Before

When we moved in, it looked very pink and very dark. The wardrobes were a dark brown, the walls were almost blindingly pink and the carpet felt like cardboard. It was also disgusting, brown patches and must have been at least 40 years old.

After

We decided to give it a fresh coat of paint on the walls over the first weekend. It made such a difference. It’s amazing how a lick of white paint can make a room feel fresh and clean. We then painted the wardrobe doors with chalk paint, we went for grey as we love greys at the moment. It made the room feel so much brighter and again, cleaner.

Next was to replace that disgusting carpet. We chose these light grey, Tegola Elite luxury vinyl tiles from Carpetright. I was told by the allergy clinic to not have carpet in my bedroom as I am allergic to dust, so the luxury vinyl tile was a great idea. It is easy to keep clean, it feels warm on my feet and looks like real wood on the floor. I love it. It is really great in bathrooms and kitchens too, so many fabulous reasons why you should get LVT.

We bought a bed in the Black Friday sale, the ottoman style bed is really useful as you can hide lots of untidy items under the bed. Or the clean bedding and towels. It is really a great way to use the space. With a new bed we had to get a new mattress. We chose this Sleep Soul pocket spring mattress from Happy Beds and it comes with a Pillowtop too. It felt like we were sleeping in the sky when we first got it.

The mattress is rated a medium to firm, but it feels like it moderates to your body weight. The Pillowtop makes it feel super comfortable, it might sound silly but it feels like you are lying on top of pillows – clues in the name I suppose. It comes vacuum packed, so it is easy to carry up to the bedroom and install. This mattress sucked up the air as soon as it was unwrapped and it took a couple of minutes to expand. It was amazing.

Finishing touches

I love this part. It’s where it all comes together. Shelves. Curtains. Decorations. It makes it all feel cosy and homely. We got the curtains in the Dunelm sale and the curtain tie backs. The bedding is also from Dunelm as it matches the curtains and colours throughout the house.

My favourite finishing touch has to be my new chair; the dusty blue velvet fabric chair from housecosy is just absolutely gorgeous. I have always wanted an occasional chair for the bedroom, we do not have a lot of space so I went for a dining style chair. I think it looks absolutely beautiful against the greys and ochre colours in our bedroom.

I love our bedroom, I think we have done a great job without breaking the bank. A combination of buying new items (in the sales) and a bit of grit and determination, it looks completely different. It is my little haven and it’s nice to go to sleep in a room that makes me feel happy. It must induce a good nights sleep – surely!

AD – I was gifted the flooring from Carpetright, chair from housecosy and the mattress from happy beds in exchange for my review. All opinions and photography are my own.

Looks amazing! We’re currently decorating and updating furniture in the master bedroom, last room to be done! I’m looking forward to putting all the finishing touches in place and having some proper grown up space 🙂
