Juggling full-time jobs, homeschooling, and day-to-day responsibilities can indeed be extremely stressful. However, amidst the chaos, the core memories that stand out are the moments of happiness and togetherness. It is during these challenging times that we often realise the importance of cherishing our loved ones and creating lasting memories. We really enjoyed creating these lovely family mealtimes and have done it ever since.
Family mealtimes are an essential part of creating strong bonds and lasting memories. Gathering around the table, sharing delicious food, and engaging in meaningful conversations brings a sense of joy and connection to everyone involved. Whether it’s a hearty breakfast, a leisurely brunch, or a cosy dinner, these moments provide an opportunity to unwind, strengthen relationships, and foster a sense of togetherness. Before the pandemic Hubby and I would eat later at night, sometimes even as late as 9pm. I am really grateful that we now enjoy these mealtimes together most days.
To make family mealtimes even more special, consider implementing a few simple ideas. Start by involving everyone in the meal planning process, allowing each family member to contribute their favourite recipes or choose the weekly menu. This not only gives everyone a sense of ownership but also introduces variety and keeps the excitement alive. The kids loved planning and prepping our afternoon tea party and our pretend restaurant adventures.
Choosing the right table
We received this beautiful Triplo round dining table and chair set from Very for our kitchen diner. It looks absolutely amazing in the space, the table reflects the light and makes that space feel a little brighter. Because of the archway it makes the light in the dining space quite dark. When we moved in this kitchen was bright yellow and the units were oak, which made the room warming but not to our taste. This is the photo I took of the kitchen on the day that we moved in, so our before photo:
Since we moved in we have completely changed the look and feel of the kitchen by painting the cupboard units and the walls. The walls are now white which has really brightened the space up and I have painted the cupboards in Cool Beans Frenchic paint. I think our new table really complements the area and it feels inviting now. The chairs are very comfortable and swivel, to make it easier to get in and out of the table as it is in a tight area. Such a great idea. You can see more dining tables and chairs at Very.
Setting the table
Setting the table with care and attention to detail can create a welcoming atmosphere. Use different tablecloths, vibrant napkins, and making special place names for everyone adds a touch of fun. We also play around with the lighting, to make it more restaurant like sometimes. Did you know dimming the lights can help to encourage conversation?
Take this time to disconnect from technology and truly engage with one another. Encourage everyone to share their thoughts and experiences from the day, creating a safe space for open communication. This is also a great opportunity to teach children about the importance of healthy eating habits and mindful eating.
Finally, don’t forget to savour the flavours. Experiment with new recipes, try different cuisines, and encourage everyone to taste new ingredients. Engage in conversations about food, its origins, and the stories behind the dishes. These culinary explorations can broaden everyone’s horizons and create lasting memories.
