We’ve all been there – the deadline is looming, time is running out and this essay isn’t writing itself. This calls for action. Get to your station, turn your laptop on and get in the zone. Whilst it can be hard to focus and motivate yourself to complete your work sometimes, it is something that you need to do, whether you like it or not. In this article, we’re going to explore some tips on how to speed up your essay writing, so you get everything done in good time, with days to spare.

Use the tools that are available to you

The writing tools you can get online these days are amazing. There are reference generators (click here), plagiarism checkers, meticulous online spell and grammar checkers, proofreading services… the list goes on. You have so much at your fingertips. Make sure you take advantage of what is available, as it will greatly streamline the process – you’ll have your essay perfected in no time.

Tell yourself the deadline is a week before the actual due date

If you go in with this mentality, then you are more spurred on to get your essay completed in advance. Tell a friend or relative that you need the essay to be done by the set date (a week before) and get them to encourage you to complete it by this date. Set yourself reminders on your phone reminding you the fake deadline is looming. This should help you to spring into action. If you get your essay done a week before this gives you plenty of time to proofread it and make any amends if needs be.

Turn your phone off

Now, this is a big one. You can be on a roll, writing a hundred words a minute and then – oh wait, your cousin wants you to play them back on Words With Friends. No. Don’t do it. That just opens a whole Pandora’s box of distractions that you don’t need. Go to the library and leave your phone at home or at the very least turn it off. You can get lost for hours on your phone, especially with apps like TikTok all the rage at the moment. It’s best just to avoid temptation all-round. You’ll be amazed at how much more productive you are. Even disabling your social media until your essay is complete could be a good idea – it gives you something to work towards.

I also find fun stationery helps, it inspires me to write more creatively. Do you have any tips and tricks? I would love to know in the comments below or on social media: @mummyconstant.
