Today we took the kiddies up to Sherwood Forest, Edwinstowe, for a lovely walk in the woods to discover Robin Hoods hideout… Edwinstowe is the home of The Major Oak. It is said to be where Robin Hood and his men took shelter and is a place of national heritage and a great tree to visit.
There is a lovely little set up at Edwinstowe, visitor centre and cafe where we had our lunch. We timed it just right this week and avoided the storms!
We went for a lovely walk around the woods and played in muddy puddles, went stick hunting and eventually we found The Major Oak. It’s a huge oak tree, the branches are being held up by supports to help keep it growing.
It’s a lovely place to visit and a good place for the toddlers if you are ever in the area! Go and find Robin Hood.

February 3, 2014I remember visiting Major Oak as a child. I used to love visiting Sherwood Forest. I was convinced I’d see Robin Hood leaping out from behind a tree!
Gorgeous photographs of you little ones too xx

February 3, 2014I’m guessing it is on some well draining land as it doesn’t even look too boggy there. Lovely pictures as always Sonia, and well done for getting out and missing the rain!
