So, I didn’t buy myself an Apple Watch that has the ability to be used without my iPhone. However, did you know that you can download music to your Watch? This means you can still listen to music on a run, without your phone in tow? I know, game-changing. I know, game-changing like high-speed Spectrum internet, right?

Firstly you will need a bluetooth headset in order to listen to the music as it will not play though your Watch.

Add music using your iPhone

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap My Watch, then tap Music.
  3. Below Playlists & Albums, tap Add Music.
  4. Select albums and playlists to sync to your Apple Watch.

In watchOS 9.1, music is added when Watch is placed near your iPhone. In earlier versions of watchOS, your Watch must also be connected to power.

Tip: Use the Music app on your iPhone to create playlists specifically for music you want to listen to on your Apple Watch—music that motivates you during a workout, for example. See the Apple Support article How to make a playlist in the Apple Music app.

I use Amazon music and so I added albums by following these steps:

Add Amazon music to your Apple Watch

I am assuming you have Amazon Music app installed and accessible via your Apple Watch.

Within the Amazon music app on your phone, you can search for music and click on settings to make it available on Apple. This sends the album or songs to your Watch and makes them available even when you are out on a run without your phone!

You can always find out more on the Apple Support website. That’s it, you can now go out for a run or do your favourite exercise without your phone and still listen to favourite exercise music.
