This weekend was not only Easter, but a huge Celebration in the “Bentley” household (my maiden name) my Grandad celebrated his 90th birthday and my grandparents had their wedding anniversary of 37 years too. So this Easter Sunday we had a little celebration with four generations under one roof…

Grandma and Mumma put on aĀ marvellousĀ afternoon tea, complete with Bucks Fizz arrival drinks and Grandad’s favourite cake; Mumma was running around after everyone like a headless chicken and Grandma enjoyed socialising with their neighbours and Grandad, bless him, sat there lip reading – his battery had run out on the hearing aid.

One of the things I took over to their house this afternoon, was Grandad’s family tree, which I started investigating about 4 years ago (You can read about that here: http://5z3.f0f.mywebsitetransfer.com/?p=434) and the neighbours were all fascinated at the years of Bentley’s I had researched. I have dug right back to the 1700’s, so Grandad’s Great Great Grandparents.

Grandad also had his photo albums out from when he was in the RAF and spent many months in fantastic places like the Cocos Islands and India, working as a Warrant Officer in electronics and radio. Warrant Officers were specialist professionals whose expertise and authority demanded formal recognition.Ā His photos are fabulous and he really looks no different to what he does now – maybe a few more grey hairs and a wrinkles (Grandad still has majority dark hair, at 90 I think that’s pretty amazing).FL2A9787

I will write another post about Grandad’s day to day’s and include some of his incredible photos, I think Noah and Isla would love to know where they came from and they can read all about it when they get older.

Mumma told a funny story of when Grandad came back from a works do, when he did a little work forĀ Jordan’sĀ  25 odd years ago and how Mumma’s friends parents got him drunk on purpose, Jordan’s works do wereĀ renownedĀ for being a bit messy – Mumma and Grandma came home from their evening together to find Grandad lying on the lounge floor sparko. I can’t imagine Grandad being drunk and stumbling around, it makes me giggle to think that we are all, in our day, like that!

My Mumma and Uncle sitting with their Daddy, my Grandad, Noah and Isla’s Great Grandad – the circle of life is pretty fascinating and I am so happy that they have such a great set of Grandparents and Great Grandparents, they are very lucky little people. I hope when I am 90 years old, I have a lovely big family and lots of Great Grandchildren running around, telling stories and looking back at my long and plentiful life.

He doesn’t look 90 years old, does he? Today was a great excuse to get some family photos with the little ones and also, we managed to get Grandma and Grandad out in the garden for some beautiful photos which I will treasure forever and ever… Thank you Daddy Constant for working your magic!
