With Noah having a birthday only a week or so after Halloween, it has given me creative license for themes over the years. I love Halloween, it is my favourite time of the year and we always have a lot of fun with it. One year we threw an extra special Halloween kids party and these are my top tips to creating something rather awesome that your children will remember for years to come.

Fancy dress is a must

It was so great to see Noah and all of his friends (and family) embracing the fancy dress. There is something about Halloween and dressing up – it’s all the more fun. Websites like costumes.com make it easy to find Halloween costumes, with good delivery options too. We dress up every year and so I am getting quite the collection of accessories that we can add to other costumes. Do you re-use costumes and accessories? Vinted have some fab costumes too, we got ours from there last year.

Get creative with the cakes

I love making cakes and decorating them. This Halloween Skippy recipe is perfect for Halloween themed cupcakes, fill them with jam too for a yummy surprise. I made a basic Victoria Sponge cake for Noah’s party, jam and vanilla cream filling and went for an easy ghost design for decoration. You can buy ready rolled white icing and ready made black icing, it really is that simple. I loved this design as it was quite quick to make and looked effective.

DJ with a Foam machine

This worked out really well for our party, all the kids loved it and the DJ UV lights glimmered on the kids fancy dress costumes. It was fun. Noah was amazed when the foam came out! The DJ played fun Halloween themed songs and got the kids dancing and boogieing throughout the entire party, it was just perfect. We hired a local DJ.

Make your own party bags

I bought lots of Halloween themed sweets, which is easy if you run into B&M right now, and I bought plain orange tubs, black pipe cleaners and the cellophane bags from Amazon. I made the labels using Canva and printed these out onto label paper and I ordered some spooky Halloween spiders from Amazon too. I think they came together really well.

We hired a school hall to throw this party and invited around 40/50 children, and made sure parents came in fancy dress too! It was a great night and my most favourite party, to organise, to date. Do you have any top tips for throwing an amazing Halloween kids party?
