Have you ever considered a career in IT? Not many people know that I was an IT professional before I moved into Project Management. A geek as my husband used to call me. We also had a photography business, which I am not sure many people would know either. Thinking about qualifications for IT careers, the CompTIA A+ is among the most widely recognised and popular certifications of its kind. Those specialists who have earned A+ are considered the best problem solvers among the entry-level positions. Many people with this certificate can be employed as field service technicians, technical support specialists, IT support administrators, IT support technicians, and others.
CompTIA A+ can be very useful for any beginner who wants to get their first job in the IT support sector. It can also be beneficial for the computer support technicians who want to demonstrate their knowledge and skills and get new opportunities. If this is a career path that interests you, then you can start to pursue the A+ certification and take its prerequisite exams. Therefore, let us help you with the task and give you some hints on what you should know first. Let’s dive into the details!
Obtaining CompTIA A+ certification
To earn the A+ certificate, you must pass 2 core exams. The current versions of these tests are CompTIA 220-1001 and CompTIA 220-1002. The first exam is all about verifying your knowledge of the fundamentals of Cloud computing, network troubleshooting, hardware, mobile devices, network connectivity issues, and virtualization. The second test covers software troubleshooting, configuration and installation of different operating systems, operational procedures, and security. Both of them are intended for the individuals with about six to twelve months of experience and active involvement in the IT support industry. However, this is not actually a requirement, it is only a recommendation. It is the fact that anyone is allowed to sign up for the CompTIA certification program and obtain the A+ badge.
The prerequisite exams come with about 90 questions of performance-based and multiple-choice types in the language that you will choose. They can be in Spanish, Portuguese, German, English, Japanese, or Thai. You will have exactly 90 minutes for each test to answer all the questions. The exams should be scheduled via Pearson VUE. You will also be required to pay the fee of $226 per each test. The only thing that distinguishes the structure of these exams from each other is their passing score. CompTIA 220-1001 requires that you get more than 675 points, while CompTIA 220-1002 requires at least 700.
