Now I am not talking about those horrible critters, fleas, that cause itching when your pets are infested. I am talking about general itchy skin. Dogs can get hayfever, just like humans and it can flare up in the Summer months. YuMEGA Itchy Dog can help ease the itching, which is great for the whole family. See below to enter a competition to win your very own fabulous Pupnic hamper prize and YuMEGA Itchy Dog.

We are always out and about with the dogs in tow and it is so upsetting to see the dogs looking uncomfortable or frustrated by something itching. Until Lintbells informed me that dogs get itchy skin, which is worse in the Summer, I had no idea. I always put it down to a beetle or something irritating them. I found it interesting to read all the facts, including the ingredients of what goes into YuMEGA Itchy Dog. You can read all about it below:

Did you know that allergies and contact irritants are the common cause of itching in dogs? Many dogs experience flare ups during the Summer months, due to the change in environment with explosions of pollen. If it doesnā€™t get managed, then it can become an all year problem.

Common allergens are: grass, tree pollens, dust mites and flea dirt. It isnā€™t a physical contact that triggers the allergies and itching. It is like when we get hay fever, so inhaling can be the cause. All things that are more likely to be around in the warmer months. Once you have the flea protection sorted, make sure you have YuMEGA Itchy Dog at the ready.

YuMEGA Itchy Dog is made up from essential Omega 3 and 6 oils which help your dog cope with itching triggers, helping them stop scratching and feel more comfortable. Omega 6, from Starflower (Borage) oil, is a key component of the skin moisture barrier which helps protect the skin from irritants. It also helps nourish soft and supple skin. It has added Vitamin E to help support the skinā€™s natural defences. It also contains Salmon oil, perfect for skin-soothing goodness.

10 things to do to help reduce your dogā€™s itch

  1. Do make an appointment to see your vet if your dog has an itch ā€“ broken skin can become infected with bacteria, yeasts or fungi and the more your dog scratches the more damage they can do.
  2. Do wipe your dog down your dog using the microfiber cloth after they have been outdoors to reduce exposure to allergens that have attached to the coat.
  3. Do talk to your vet about regular flea treatment ā€“ many skin problems are associated with fleas and they may not always be visible as they can jump on and off your dog.
  4. Do use YuMEGA Itchy Dog to support skin health ā€“ simply add YuMEGA Itchy Dog to your dogā€™s food
  5. Do feed a good quality diet but be aware that some omega oils are easily damaged during processing and storage of food and giving a high quality supplement such as YuMEGA Itchy Dog is the only reliable way to ensure you give enough.
  6. Dogs can experience allergies to inhaled substances like dust mites indoors and pollens outdoors and some are sensitive to certain foods. Do talk to your vet if you think your dog could have a food allergy ā€“ itā€™s not enough to switch flavours, varieties or even brands. Some dogs with food allergies get itchy ears and no other signs.
  7. Do not ignore the problem hoping it will get better ā€“ sometimes dogs can be allergic to one allergen but eventually become allergic to multiple allergens and seasonal allergies can eventually become year round problems.
  8. Do keep an itch diary ā€“ recording when the itch got worse and anything that happened around that time.
  9. Do bath your itchy dog frequently with a good quality dog shampoo recommended by your vet to help remove allergens from your dogā€™s coat. Donā€™t use human shampoos on your dog as they are formulated for human skin which has a different level of acidity compared to dogā€™s skin.
  10. Do wash bedding using soap flakes rather than washing powder. Washing at high temperatures also removes dust mites. Toys that canā€™t be washed can be popped in the freezer in a plastic bag to kill off dust mites.
