Last week we were in Yorkshire, so we thought it only right to go and inspect the scenery and of course the fish and chips! We were half an hour from Whitby, so we all took a drive and had a lovely walk across the beach, the pier, the town and the 199 steps up to the old abbey. It was full of things to look at and explore, right up our street.

Whitby holds a lot of secrets, from the outsiders point of view anyway. I had no idea from when we walked in on the beach that there was so much to see and explore – it looks very hidden from across the harbour. You can see up the hill behind the houses and you can see the abbey ruins on the horizon, but unless you know about what is in between you are in for a pleasant surprise. I would love to go back and spend more time in the little boutiques and exploring the abbey.

I am still shocked Isla walked up the 199 steps – I didn’t make her, she wanted to walk and when I picked her up she elongated herself out and went floppy as if to say “Let me go!”, so I let her walk and she did it. She was so chuffed with herself too. Needless to say they both slept well that night. So did I!

Daddy didn’t like the pier as it walks right out into sea, but the water wasn’t underneath us directly just to the sides of us – which was a little better for him. It was quite funny though, Noah and Isla loved it. Noah was laughing at Daddy for scared, bless him. They must take after me with their fear factors as heights and things like that do not phase me.

It was beautiful scenery and a lovely fresh, clear day, so it was good all round for a January day. Everyone was impressed and we loved our fish and chips – so did the seagulls!
