Whether it is throwing a ball, playing with dolls or simply drawing, kids of all ages like it when they are doing something exciting and creative. One excellent way to help them reach new levels of fun is to create their own playroom area right in your home. If you are one of the lucky ones who have a spare room in your house, you can easily turn it into a fun den where your children can engage in all kinds of plays. We were lucky to have a children’s playroom in our last house, but it isn’t something we have here.

Hang fun wall decorations

The first element you should think about when designing your children’s playroom area is your color scheme which can be best represented through your walls. You can either paint the walls using numerous shades or simply hang wall decals to create an overall theme in the room.

If you opt for the latter, then you have plenty of options to choose from. For example, kids love cartoons, so why not decorate their largest wall space with some of their favorite cartoon posters and instantly turn it into a feature wall. You can even hang the posters in colorful frames to match the rest of the color palette of the room.

If you want to be more original, then you can always rely on wallpapers to add more life and vibrancy to the space. There are all kinds of designs available so you can opt for the one that will best suit your children’s preferences.

Add practical furniture pieces

When it comes to your playroom furniture, you should opt for pieces that not only will add visual interest to the space, but that will also be functional. From a small table to comfy seating, there are a few elements that will make your kids’ playroom feel complete.

For example, for the seating arrangement, bean bags are every kid’s favorite. They come in many forms, colors and designs and are extremely comfortable to sit in. You can get a couple of them and place them in that part of the room that will be reserved for resting. The great thing about the bean bags is that you can still use them when your kids get older.

Besides this, you should also consider incorporating a table and chairs especially if you have younger children. To make it more interesting for them, you can opt for different color chairs to bring more playfulness into the room.

Incorporate interesting lighting

Another element you can get creative with when you are designing your kids’ playroom is the lighting. From overhead ambient lights to table lamps and pendants, you have the option of choosing the perfect lighting fixture that will enhance the overall tone and feel of the space.

For example, cloud overhead lamps are a very popular choice among parents. These are specifically built for the ceiling and provide your kids with much-needed light during playtime. Plus, they are so adorable and lifelike, giving your little ones the feeling as if they are playing outside.

Another lighting fixture you can play with is fairy lights. They are easily customizable, so you can go for the ones that will either match or contrast the color palette of the playroom. You can hang them around any furniture piece you like and instantly create a cozy corner for your children’s playroom.

Install creative storage units

The reality is kids have lots of toys and playing tools that should always be easily reachable for them. One of the best ways to do that is to install practical and creative storage units to make the playroom area always look neat and well organized.

Depending on the size of the room, you have several options on how you can go about your storage. For example, if the space is rather small, then you should opt for a couple of multicolored bins, baskets and some floating shelves where you will keep your children’s staple toys.

If the playroom is a bit larger, then you can install floor-to-ceiling wall storage in the form of cubes where you will keep your kids’ books and other playing essentials. To keep things interesting in the room, you can have each cube painted in different colors to add more life to the room.

Decorate with colorful accessories

No kid’s playroom area will feel complete without any colorful accessories. These can be anything from patterned pillows on the chairs to decorative toys that will be a true representation of your children’s personality and likes.

For example, if your kids are into animals, then you can decorate the shelves and storage units with toy bears, giraffes and elephants. This way they will match with the cartoon posters you have on the walls and complete the overall animal theme in the room.

Another decorative element you can incorporate in the playroom is a rug. For example, if the color scheme of the space is neutral, then you can add a multicolored mat with different designs that will match the room’s interior design style. You can either place it under the table and chairs or in the area that is designated for playing.
