Whether you are starting a business, or you are trying to take those first steps towards making a solid idea into a reality, starting a business is one of the most invigorating things you will ever achieve. So many people talk about the stresses that come with starting a business, but for many, starting your own business is the very definition of freedom. Is this really the case?

You Can Do What You Want (as Long as You Have the Support in Place)

If you’ve got a good idea, and you want to escape the 9 to 5 drudge, you have to remember that starting your own business will demand complete dedication. It’s important to remember that there’s a lot of components that make a business effective. Whether you are trying to get the funding in place, business IT support components to protect your technology or having the sheer business acumen in place, there’s a lot to consider.

It’s thoroughly possible to do what you want, but you have to remember that it boils down to those smaller components that self-employed people can underestimate, especially when they are trying to achieve freedom. You can do what you want, but you have to remember that there’s a lot of support needed to make your business fly.

Is Being Self-Employed Actually โ€œFlexible?โ€

Many people think that starting their own business means they can do anything they want and there is no need to adhere to someone else’s timetable, and yes, there is a lot to be said for working for yourself, especially with the rise of self-made entrepreneurs. This could be due to a lack of flexibility in the modern working environment. But everybody has to remember that the first year of running a business can be troublesome.

Yes, doing something for yourself does mean you are more fulfilled, but when you are working to line someone else’s pocket, this can be a very frustrating way of life. Being self-employed is about stretching yourself in so many different ways, you have to remember that it can feel freeing in one way, but hindering in another. Starting your own business requires you to be a jack-of-all-trades, but you have to be a master of all of them as well.

The first 12 to 18 months of starting a business requires you to work 12 hours a day, at least, and it can be a big wake-up call, especially when you are investing so much of your life in a business. However, you have to remember that starting your own business is not just about the money, it’s about realising you have a passion for something.

Starting your own business is hard work and upgrading the business is another challenge that comes hot on the heels of business development, but you have to remember that it will bring you freedom, but it may not be the freedom that you initially thought was best for you. Starting a business is a way to escape the 9 to 5 grind, but it can also be by something else entirely. You may have to redefine what your definition of freedom actually is.

Thought provoking – something to mull over for the future
