Every business owner knows that their company should be a presence on social media. However, it’s not as if merely having a page is going to do all that much for your business. In order for your channels to have a positive impact on your bottom line, you’ll need to build a list of followers who actively engage with your page. And that, of course, is more difficult than simply creating the page. Many businesses struggle with this side of social media because their posts are simply not engaging enough. While you’d like to think that your followers will be inherently interested in the inner workings of your company, that’s unlikely to be the case, not always, at least.
In this blog, we’re going to run through some handy tips for livening up your company’s social media profiles. Take our tips, and it won’t be long before you notice that your engagement levels have gone up.
Use Memes…Well!
Everyone loves memes. They are the internet language of our times. Indeed, would we have made it through lockdown if it wasn’t for memes? We’re going to say…no. So if memes are what the people love, then memes are what the people should have. They’re a fun, shareable way to get your message across. Of course, the capacity for making bad memes is pretty darn high — and if you get it wrong, people will turn on you (as we said — people love memes!). A good general rule is to avoid making memes yourself unless you’re a comedian. Instead, pick memes that are broadly connected to your industry — just remember to give credit where it’s due.
Use Stories
People do, of course, scroll through their social media channels. But increasingly, people are opting just to look at certain features, especially if they only have limited time. For instance, Instagram stories have ballooned in popularity. They’re easy to post, and people like to view them since they offer interesting content quickly. So you should use stories as part of your social media campaigns. But you should also look for ways to make them more engaging. There are so many built-in features that will make your post more interesting. Could you learn how to add music to instagram story, for instance? Or use a fun feature that makes your post more entertaining? Another good thing about stories is that you can post once a day, in a pressure-free way. You should highly curate your Instagram feed, but with stories, you have some freedom to play around.
Engaging Content
It’s important, of course, to post engaging content on your site. But sometimes, it can be difficult to determine what exactly counts as engaging content. You might think that what you’re posting is brilliant, but if your followers don’t agree, then it’s not going to have the desired effect. A good rule of thumb is to try and look at your posts through the lens of someone who has nothing to do with your company. Would you be interested in your post if you weren’t the leader of the business? If the answer is no, then it’s unlikely that anyone else is going to be all that interested in it either.
Behind The Scenes
Most of what you post on your social media channels will be “front of house.” That is to say, it’ll largely just be content that relates to your offerings, promotions, things like that. However, there’s value in posting some behind the scenes content, too. It could just be you, or you could have a team of employees. No matter what it is, people will be happy to see what happens behind the scenes to make your business tick! Of course, you don’t have to go overboard with this — you don’t need to post images and videos of your staff every day. But every now and again it can be nice, especially since, as a small business, that’s one of the key advantages you have over big corporations. They can’t profile all their staff!
Run A Competition
Finally, what about hosting a competition for your followers? Everyone loves to receive something for free. Running a competition will increase customer engagement and show that you care. It’s also a highly effective way to grow your list of followers. One way to do this is to have entrants either share your post or tag a friend who might be interested in your company. You’ll find that you’ll get thousands of views, and all it’ll cost you is one of your products.
