3 years ago I was told I needed to change my habits as I had gum disease, it scared me a lot. My recent trip to the local dentist was better, but still scary. I have a new routine for cleaning my teeth and so do the children and we were really lucky to receive some fabulous DenTek products to help us with our teeth cleaning mission.

Our new family routine with DenTek

We received a pack of Comfort Clean Floss Picks, inter-dental brushes and some fun flossers for the children to copy what Mummy and Daddy do. They have been incredible in helping us to change our teeth cleaning habits.

Step 1 – Clean your teeth

We use electric toothbrushes and make sure we brush our teeth for 2 minutes (we have timers on our toothbrushes). We clean our teeth when we wake up and before we go to bed. The dentist said my teeth were great and my brushing was fabulous, so I am really pleased with that.

Step 2 – Floss in-between your teeth

The children and I use our flossers to make sure we get all of the food out from in-between our teeth. We make sure we get right down into the gum, making sure to lift up any debris that may be hiding in our gums. This can sometimes hurt and if this bleeds it is a sign of gum disease, so make sure you alert your dentist about this as you may need a medicated mouthwash. We do this once a day, the kids find this fun when they are in the bath in the evening.

Step 3 – use the interdental brush

This is a new tool for me. I have never seen them before I went to the dentist. They are little brushes that you push in-between your teeth and they clean where the toothbrush cannot reach. They even collect food that the flossers miss. I was amazed when the dentist used it on my back teeth. I do this once a day. The children do not need to use this at the moment.

Step 4 – rinse with a good mouthwash

It is important that you do not rinse your mouth when you clean your teeth. If your gums bleed it is important to use a mouthwash to help reduce the inflammation. Either grab one from your local pharmacy or see your dentist. Swill the mouthwash in your mouth for 2 minutes and do not rinse afterwards. Use this twice a day until your gums stop bleeding.
