I love the GTech gadgets, you may remember the AirRAM that we tested out back in 2013. This year we got to try out the new GTech HT05-Plus Cordless Extendable Hedge Trimmer and it is fantastic, it makes light work of keeping the garden tidy and is really strong for a cordless trimmer. Another amazing bonus is that the arm extends so you can reach the tops of the overgrown hedges.

Long reach

The arm extends to 1.7metres so that you can reach those awkward areas, I am not very tall and so this facility is great for when you need to quickly trim down the hedges. We have an area between the side door and the shed that has been overgrown for months and I finally decided to take to it with the GTech, it was gone within minutes. I trimmed around the shed and managed to reach quite far on top of the shed too, which means the sun shines through to the alley way now. It’s made that area so much brighter and it felt good to get it tidy.

You will notice from the photos I took the whole area was over grown, it was covering the alley way like a ceiling of leaves. Afterwards it was a managed area in the corner and the shed roof was exposed, which I havent seen for the two years we have lived in this house. I cleared this area in under 30 minutes.

Here are some before and after shots of around the shed:

Lightweight and high performance

It really is quite light, after 30 minutes of holding it up in the air it does become quite a workout, but it is very light. In fact it is quite a satisfying workout, keeping fit and getting rid of the overgrown hedges and plants around the house. It cut through bushes and plants with quite thick branches, it didn’t seem to damage the trimmer in any way either. I think the branches I cut were about 1 cm in diameter – which is pretty good going for a cordless trimmer. It is really safe as it has a one handed power trigger and a safety switch, so I feel comfortable using it in the garden when the children are around. It also has a great cover for the blades for when you are not using it, which locks the blades in place if it is accidentally turned on. The other great thing is there are no cables, so nothing to accidentally cut through!

The area where used to keep the trampoline has plants growing all over the fence, it is always overgrown and looks very untidy. Towards Spring time the plants grew so quickly they would end up poking thorugh the trampoline. In order to tidy this area to make room for our vegetable patch, we started by tackling the overgrown plants. It took about 10 minutes to clear this area, then around 30 minutes to clear the tops of the fence which joins up to the shed in the images above.
