Did you know last week was Mental Health Awareness Week? This year’s topic was anxiety and people have shared wonderful tips for all sorts of ways you can help to reduce anxiety and help your mental health overall. Sleep, as they say, is the best medicine for a lot of things and sleep isn’t one-size-fits-all either. With that in mind, TEMPUR® have developed a quiz so you can find out your sleep chronotype and get your perfect sleep routine.

Getting a good night’s sleep is super important for your mental health and can help to reduce anxiety. Even if you worry about the fact that you might not be able to get to sleep, finding the best sleep routine for you is crucial. If you go to bed thinking “I will go to sleep” then you are more likely to allow yourself to relax.

I took the TEMPUR® quiz on the website and I came out as a STANDARD SLEEPER. This means I generally need 8 hours of sleep and I do not like to stay up too late or wake up too early. Well, honestly, I do not like getting up early and I find it hard not to snooze my alarm. But I  have always thought of myself as a night owl and hardly ever go to bed before 11pm. But whether it’s because of my bad habits or not, I will find out. I never go to bed at a consistent time and the tip at the end of the quiz is to make sure I do go to bed at a consistent time. So, I will be trying this over the coming weeks.

Standard sleeper routine

Taking  TEMPUR®’s advice, I am going to set myself a bedtime that I am going to try my best to stick to. Ideally, I need to get up no later than 7am. In order to get my 8 hours of sleep I would have to be asleep by 11pm. Usually this is the time I am going to bed. To give myself time to settle into a pleasant sleep I am going to make sure I am in bed by 10:30pm and devices are off at that time. If I want to watch TV in bed or do a bit of Mummy admin, then I will have to get into bed earlier, to give myself time to unwind before I fall asleep.

Once I get my body used to going to bed at 11pm, getting up at 7am will come easier and my body will get used to the routine.

TEMPUR® Comfort pillow

One of the other things I did to help me perfect my sleep routine is to get a new pillow. I have the TEMPUR® Comfort Pillow Original. Made from a patented TEMPUR® envelope containing thousands of medium-feel TEMPUR® Material micro-cushions, the Comfort Pillow Original provides plush comfort whilst still maintaining that all important pressure relief. I did the hand test to see if the pillow moulds around my hand, and it really does work!

The soft cover fabric is really nice on your skin and can be machine washed to keep your pillow clean. It fits perfectly in standard bed linen, so I put my favourite white bedding set on and voila.

Other tips to make sure you have a good night’s sleep is to make sure your bed base is the best one for you. And, if you haven’t tried one already, try a memory foam mattress –  they are absolutely so comfortable and great for sinking into your bed at night.

Do you have any tips to get that perfect sleep routine? Have you tried the TEMPUR® ranges before? I would love to know your feedback in the comments below. Check out my other lifestyle posts.

This post is in conjunction with TEMPUR® but all thoughts are my own.
