Many of us don’t spend much time in the garden when autumn turns to winter because we think our gardens are too cold and not inviting to be enjoyed at this time of year, but that really does not have to be the case. On a sunny Winter day I love sitting in the garden with a blanket and a cup of tea, the sunshine on your cheeks feels energising. There are lots of things you can do to enjoy your garden even in the wintertime, including the following:

Install a fire pit

If you really want to get lots of enjoyment out of your garden in the winter months, then investing in a fire pit is the one thing you should definitely do, it will give you a warm place you can gather around and toast marshmallows with the kids or relax reading a good book, and it will make your garden look amazing on those clear winter nights, too.

Invest in outdoor lighting

Outdoor wall lighting is obviously a must in winter. When it gets dark in the afternoons, you need to be sure you can see your way around the garden and have enough light to read a book on the patio or do some figging in the veggies patch. Permanent outdoor lighting is the best solution for this.

Hang bird feeders

One of the most fun activities you can get up to in the garden during the winter months is watching the birds, and sometimes those pesky squirrels, going about their day. By providing bird food to them, you can ensure that they make the journey to your garden, and as well as getting a lot of joy out of watching them, you will be doing a really good thing for the local wildlife who can struggle when the weather gets cold.

Plant some winter flowers

If you hate spending time in the garden in winter because the place is so barren and devoid of colour, buy some pretty pastel-coloured plant pots and fill them with colourful flowers that do well in the winter, such as violas and pansies. Place them around your garden so there is a pop of colour wherever you look and it will make the garden seem far more inviting than before.

Build a shelter

Whether you erect an awning or build your own summerhouse, or should that be a winter house, at the bottom of the garden, if you want to be able to enjoy your outdoor space in the winter months, then having some kind of shelter that will keep the rain from soaking you is a must.

Wrap up warm

Of course, one thing that will really help you to enjoy your time in the garden in winter is to simply investing in some really warm clothes, including hats, gloves and coats, that will keep you warm and dry no matter what the weather is. When you dress right, spending time in the garden is always fun.

As you can see, it is perfectly possible to have a great time in the garden even during the coldest months of the year, so why not get your garden winter-ready right now?
