We all know motherhood is an incredible journey, but it can also be exhausting, overwhelming and leaves us with very little ‘me-time‘. A commodity we all began to see disappearing as soon as we welcomed our bundles of joy into our lives. But, it’s not only essential for our well-being, it’s our absolute right to steal a few moments of the day for our own enjoyment. I thought I would share a few little luxuries that have really had a big impact on my routine. These small delights have kept me sane (well, mostly sane) through midnight feeds, toddler tantrums, and homework help!

The Magic Makeup Must-Have

Ladies, when you’re running on little sleep, make-up becomes a trusted ally. And, a long-lasting brow pencil will be just the ticket to make you feel like your pre-baby self. Just a few swift strokes can give you that tidy, polished look without requiring too much effort, especially on those manic Monday mornings where you’re rushing everyone out of the door. 

The beauty of a great brow pencil is that you can take it with you on the go. So whether you’re waiting for the kids outside football practice, or you’re simply running late and need to apply makeup on the go, it’s an absolute must-have in your day bag. 

Other favourite makeup items that give me a perk:

– A hydrating lip balm, for a quick sweep of moisture and colour.

– A dash of shimmery eye-shadow to brighten up my eyes.

– Compact and dewy foundation, to make my skin glow, even on a busy day.

The Aromatic Pick-Me-Up

Next, let’s talk about the sense we often underestimate – smell. Fragrances can truly uplift our mood and make us feel pampered. Citrus scents, for example, are known to help reduce stress, as are lavender and vanilla.

Lighting a scented candle after a chaotic day or applying a touch of your favourite perfume before going out, can instantly boost your mood. There’s nothing like catching a waft of a beautiful scent to remind yourself that yes, you are indeed a woman and not just ‘mum’!

The Indulgent Sip

We cake-baking, lunch-packing, school-run-dashing mamas deserve a little treat for our tastebuds. Whether it’s gourmet coffee or a special herbal tea, there’s nothing like a moment to savour your favourite brew in peace while the little ones are napping. Maybe you prefer something chilled, like a smoothie or perhaps a cheeky glass of wine on a Friday evening.

Whatever liquid luxury you choose, make it count. Take a moment to really taste, savour it, and enjoy the moment. 

The ‘Just Five More Minutes’ Luxury

Finally, the quiet pleasure of hitting the snooze button. As someone once said, “sleep is like the unicorn – it is rumoured to exist, but I doubt I will see any”. Honestly, even five extra minutes nestled cosily beneath the duvet can feel like pure bliss! 

This little luxury can make a big difference to your day, especially if your darling children like predawn wake-up calls.

In the end, lovelies, it’s all about taking a moment to breathe and treat yourself. You aren’t just mums; you’re superheroes without capes.  Hence, introducing these little luxuries into your day is a form of self-care and, darling, self-care is never selfish – it’s essential.

So go ahead, indulge in these simple pleasures, for they not only add refreshment to your routine but vitality to your tired soul. You simply can’t pour from an empty cup, now can you? 

Remember to carve out moments of bliss amidst your busy schedules because you absolutely, unequivocally deserve it. After all, a happy mum equals a happy family!
