There’s something really special about a Cornwall staycation when your children are that little bit older. The pace changes, the conversations deepen, and suddenly you’re not just planning activities to keep them busy… you’re sharing experiences together. This is our take on Cornwall with teens, a bit of downtime over our Easter break.
We spent the first week of our Easter holidays in Bude, and it turned out to be one of those trips that just worked. The kind where everything feels easy, the days flow naturally, and everyone comes home feeling recharged.
If you’re thinking about Cornwall with teens, here’s exactly how our week looked — along with what we genuinely loved (and what’s worth knowing before you go).
Cornwall with teens: quick overview
- Location: Bude, North Cornwall
- Best for: families with older children and teens
- Trip length: 7 days
- Highlights: beaches, sea pool, coastal walks, day trips
- Stay: Bevilles Barn, Woolstone Manor Farm

1. Where we stayed near Bude
We stayed at Woolstone Manor Farm in Bevilles Barn, just a 10-minute drive from Bude, and it gave us the best of both worlds — countryside calm with easy access to the coast.
- Quiet, relaxed setting (ideal after busy beach days)
- Plenty of space for teens to switch off: outdoor chess set, tennis court, table tennis and pool all accessible from the cottage
- Easy driving distance to beaches and town
One thing to note: we walked from the farm to Widemouth Bay one day. It’s doable, but part of the route is alongside the road, which felt a little worrying at times. That said, cars were considerate and slowed down for us.
For families with older children, this kind of location works really well — giving everyone a bit of independence while still feeling connected.
2. Our Bude beach days with teens
Bude beach quickly became our go-to spot. It’s one of those places where you can spend hours without needing to plan too much.

Experiences like this are exactly what make Cornwall so appealing for families with older children — simple, memorable and easy to access. We found the car park at Summerleaze Beach the best and reasonably priced – you can pay for it on the Just Park app and top it up if needed! £12.20 gave us 24 hours, which is pretty amazing when you want a long day at the beach.
4. What we loved most:
- The semi-natural sea pool — such a unique experience and perfect for a calmer swim
- Bodyboarding — ideal for teens who want a bit of energy and independence
- Slower moments like painting stones on the beach
That balance is exactly why Bude works so well with teenagers. There’s enough to do, but not so much that it feels overwhelming.
3. Exploring Bude town
We didn’t over-plan our time in town, and that’s what made it enjoyable.
- Independent shops to wander through
- A relaxed, friendly atmosphere
- Plenty of places to grab food or snacks
It’s the kind of place where teens can browse at their own pace, which makes a big difference when you’re travelling with older children.
4. Where we ate: Bransons Inn
One of our favourite meals was at Bransons Inn, overlooking the canal.
- Beautiful waterside views
- Relaxed pub atmosphere
- Perfect after a day outdoors
It’s exactly the type of place that works well on a family staycation — easy, welcoming and no pressure.

5. Walking from Widemouth Bay to Bude
Widemouth Bay has a completely different feel to Bude — more open, more rugged, and perfect for walking.
- Stonier beach, great for coastal walks
- Access to the coastal path towards Bude
- Plenty of space for teens to explore
The walk itself is a lovely way to break up beach days, giving everyone a chance to slow down and take in the scenery.

6. A day trip to Fowey
We took a day trip to Fowey, and it was one of the highlights of the week. It is absolutely beautiful, a nice place to explore and the weather made us feel like we were in a different country! The water is a lot calmer on this side of Cornwall too, so if you want a break from the surf, it’s a great day out.
- Stunning estuary views
- Beautiful houses and winding streets
- A completely different pace to Bude
It’s the perfect option when you want a change of scenery without losing that Cornwall charm. It took about 1 hour to drive across Cornwall, but it was definitely worth it.

7. Carlyon Bay: a beach with a different vibe
Carlyon Bay had such a lovely atmosphere — slightly more vibrant, with a different energy to the beaches around Bude. You could hire a jet ski, paddle board or kayak, grab a pizza or a hot cuppa. It is really set up for the warmer months!
- Wide open space
- Great beach vibe
- Ideal for teens who want somewhere a little different
It’s definitely worth adding to your Cornwall itinerary if you’re exploring beyond one area.
8. Why Cornwall works so well with teens
This trip really reminded me how different holidays feel as your children grow.
Cornwall, especially somewhere like Bude, offers:
- Space for independence
- A mix of activity and downtime
- Safe, relaxed environments
- Opportunities to connect without forcing it
And that’s the magic of travelling with teens — it’s less about constant entertainment and more about shared moments.
9. Who this trip is perfect for
This kind of Cornwall staycation is ideal for:
- Families with older children or teens
- Those wanting a mix of beach time and light exploring
- Parents looking for a more relaxed, low-pressure holiday
If your family enjoys simple days, fresh air and letting plans unfold naturally, Bude is a brilliant choice.
