Nestled in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, Betws-y-Coed is the perfect base for a family-friendly adventure in North Wales. It is beautiful and a great location for lots of adventures. Surrounded by ancient forests, cascading waterfalls and majestic mountains, it’s a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. We are here for the Easter holidays, and we cannot wait to get stuck into some activities. Here are ten fantastic things to do in and around Betws-y-Coed that the whole family will enjoy:

1. Discover Swallow Falls

Just a short drive or a scenic walk from the village centre, Swallow Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Wales. Kids will love the roar of the water and watching the river flow through the rocky gorge. There’s a viewing platform with steps, so be sure to bring suitable footwear.

2. Take a ride on the Conwy Valley Railway

Hop on the Conwy Valley line from Betws-y-Coed station and enjoy a picturesque train journey through lush valleys and along the river Conwy. It’s a great way to sit back and take in the scenery without too much walking for tired legs.

3. Explore Zip World Fforest

Just five minutes from the village, Zip World Fforest offers thrills for all ages. There’s the Fforest Coaster (a gravity-powered alpine ride), Tree Hoppers for younger adventurers, and Skyride swings for older kids and adults. It’s an adrenaline-packed day out with plenty of giggles, we get to do this in the week and we are very excited.

4. Stroll along the riverside walk to Pont-y-Pair bridge

Start from the village green and follow the path along the river to Pont-y-Pair bridge. The rocks below are perfect for a little scrambling (with supervision), and there are shallow spots for a paddle in warmer months.

5. Visit Conwy Castle

A 30-minute drive from Betws-y-Coed, Conwy Castle is a brilliant spot for budding historians and adventurers. Climb the towers, walk along the ancient walls, and soak up the views across the estuary. The town itself is full of charm and great for a wander.

6. Try a woodland walk in Gwydir Forest

There are several waymarked trails in Gwydir Forest, just behind Betws-y-Coed. Choose a gentle circular route or a longer adventure if you’ve got older children. Look out for hidden lakes, old mining ruins and plenty of birds and squirrels.

7. Have a picnic at Llyn Elsi

A bit of a climb from the village, but well worth the effort, Llyn Elsi is a peaceful lake with stunning views. It’s a great spot for a family picnic, and older children will love spotting fish and dragonflies around the edges of the water.

8. Visit Llandudno beach and pier

As you all know my kids love a pier, Llandudno has a great one and the beach makes for a great Spring walk. You can also get on a cable car and travel for over a mile around the area, which is something on my list of things to do this week too.

9. Visit the Ugly House (Ty Hyll)

This quirky little cottage just outside the village has a lovely tearoom and beautiful woodland gardens. There’s a bee exhibition and nature trail, too. The story of the “Ugly House” adds a little mystery for curious young minds.

10. Enjoy local treats at Alpine Coffee Shop

After a day of exploring, head to Alpine Coffee Shop in the village for hot chocolate, delicious cakes, and hearty lunches. They’re dog-friendly, cater for all dietary needs, and it’s a brilliant place to relax and refuel.
