Creating a home office that feels stylish, comfortable and functional has become essential now many of us spend large parts of the day working from home. One of the key elements in any home office setup is your chair: it directly impacts comfort, posture and productivity. In this post I’m sharing how I styled my scheme and why the right office chair made all the difference.
1. Start With Your Workspace Aesthetic
Before I chose a chair, I defined the overall look and feel I wanted for my home office. A calm, clutter-free space helps me focus, so I chose neutral tones with warm and natural accents. A simple wooden desk, a few framed prints and a houseplant helped ground the space and make it feel inviting rather than clinical.
Styling tip: choose furniture and accessories that reflect your personality but also keep the space bright and energising. Lighter colours help make even small spaces feel more open.

2. Prioritise Comfort And Ergonomics
Once I had the visual style set, I turned my attention to practicality. I knew I needed a chair that would support me through long work days without compromising on comfort.
I chose the Amazon Basics Ergonomic Height Adjustable Fabric Office Chair for its balance of price, comfort and versatility. It has padding where you need it most and the adjustable height makes it easy to pair with any desk. The fabric finish keeps the look soft and contemporary, fitting well with my chosen aesthetic.
What I love about this chair:
- Supportive cushioning for long periods of sitting
- Adjustable height to suit your desk and posture
- A design that doesn’t feel bulky or out of place in a styled room
3. Balance Style With Function
When arranging your home office, think in layers: storage and organisation tools come first, then your large furniture pieces, and finally the accessories that make the space feel personal. A comfortable chair like the one above becomes central to your day-to-day use, so it’s worth investing in one that feels good and looks good too.
Other ways I styled my home office:
- Added a soft rug under the desk area to define the space
- Matched desk accessories (lamp, pen pot, file trays) in a consistent colour palette
- Used floating shelves to display books and decorative items

4. Test And Adjust
Remember that comfort is highly personal. After a few days working in the new setup, adjust the height, chair tilt or desk arrangement as needed. Small tweaks can make a huge difference to your posture and comfort throughout the day.
Styling your home office is about finding the balance between aesthetics and functionality. The right chair can transform your working experience, making your home office somewhere you want to sit, not just have to sit.
