Winter clothes for your baby is a must to protect them from the cold. From jackets for baby girls to thick tights, these items should be designed to provide the best comfort and much needed warmth to small babies that are starting to experience the world around them. In order to choose the best outfit for your toddler during the colder months you will need to have some essential items that are indispensable in any wardrobe, as well as some layer rules you will want to follow to avoid their body temperature from rising too much.

The number one concern should be protecting your toddler from the low temperature while still giving them space to breathe and move around comfortably.

Long sleeved onesies

Onesies are an incredible versatile item that needs to be in every baby girl’s closet. When it is time to protect them from the cold, pick a model with long sleeves. There’s plenty of onesies to choose from, usually with tons of different fabrics and patterns, so it’s easy to find one that both you and your baby will love.

This garment will allow you to dress them comfortably and stylishly, but most importantly it will provide them with the right protection their bodies need in harsh weather.

It is very important that the onesie you select is made of a soft material, like 100% cotton or fleece, since these fabrics help regulate a baby’s body temperature. Cotton is particularly great because it is more breathable than other fabrics; it is also soft to the touch so it will feel good against their skin.

Outerwear

Other indispensable items for this season are jackets for baby girls, tracksuits and snowsuits. These garments are available even for newborns, so you will be able to offer them protection right from their very first few days of life.

You can find them in a variety of designs depending on your taste and needs, however when it comes to getting babies enough protection in extremely cold weather, it is important to get one that avoids overheating, irritation on their skin, or makes them feel uncomfortable in any shape or form.

Most experts agree toddlers should have winter jackets made with cotton or other sustainable materials that allow the skin to breathe and that are also hypoallergenic. Babies will love the sensation of a light fabric on their skin while also helping them by maintaining the right body temperature for them.

The material of the outerwear for toddlers is fundamental since the right fabric will stop your baby from sweating in excess or approaching overheating. Garments that don’t absorb sweat properly can also be harmful since the sweat can irritate the baby’s delicate skin or they can even catch a cold because of the increased humidity.

Footed baby pants

Footed baby pants are a type of clothing that covers the feet of the baby to offer them more protection from the weather, helping them to be warm and comfortable. They are a must have in any baby girl’s closet during the winter or if you are planning a vacation to a place with colder climates.

They are tremendously versatile since you can pair them with onesies, jackets, socks, and other items to create the right combination that protects babies from the inclement weather. Footed baby pants are also important because cold tends to get in through the limbs, especially the feet. Baby feet are one of the most sensitive body parts and protecting them with these pants will help keep them covered when they need it the most.

Tights and socks

Since protecting the limbs is of outmost importance, it helps to have a pair of tights and socks nearby during colder days. A good pair of long cotton tights will not only protect your baby toddler from the cold, but it will also absorb humidity, giving them breathability and freshness at all times.

And the good news is you don’t have to save them only for winter; tights can be worn in any type of weather since they can easily be adapted depending on the outside temperature.

The rules of layering

When your baby girl needs to be in low temperature areas, you should always keep in mind the golden rule of layering for babies: add an extra layer than what the adults are wearing. Toddlers have trouble regulating their body temperature and extra layers prevent them from losing heat faster. Just keep in mind the fit of the outerwear and other garments they are wearing is not too tight in order to avert overheating their bodies.

A good rule of thumb is to dress them in the basics: a shirt, pants, socks or tights, and a sweater or jacket. If it is snowing or raining, you can add some mittens and a hat.

In low temperature weather the most important thing is to make sure the clothing is covering most if not all their body. The clothes should also be soft, comfortable, and breathable. Remember that over-covered doesn’t always mean they are well covered; use only the proper number of layers depending on the weather and you should be good to go. But just in case, it’s always helpful to monitor your baby’s body temperature by observing the color of their skin and checking their temperature on the back of their necks or belly. This will be especially helpful if you take them out in a stroller or if you are in a place with abrupt changes of temperature.
