I love it now that Spring is here, the golden hour and beautiful light is perfect for getting out. Although you need to get it right with the weather, something that keeps the chill off and still looks stylish! A classic jacket that can be styled up or down, layered when needed, and worn from the school run to dinner out is a perfect staple for your wardrobe. One of my favourites this season is the V by Very longline military jacket in black. It’s timeless, super flattering, and versatile enough to work for just about every occasion.

Here’s how I’m styling mine three ways, with a few of my top picks from Very’s latest collection.

For the school run and family day out

Let’s face it, comfort and practicality are a must when you’re running around after the kids – but that doesn’t mean compromising on style. The military jacket’s longer length makes it perfect for keeping warm on chilly mornings, while the structured shape instantly pulls any look together.

I’ve been layering mine over the Mint Velvet cream lace trim t-shirt, which adds a soft, feminine detail that balances out the sharpness of the jacket. Paired with the Levi’s high waisted mom jeans and the super comfy adidas Originals Gazelle Bold trainers, it’s an easy look that still feels stylish enough for brunch or a family trip to the park.

For a day at work

Whether you’re heading into the office or working from a café, the jacket instantly smartens up any outfit. Try layering it over a monochrome knit or a trusty blouse. The black colourway keeps it classic and polished, and the gold buttons add just the right amount of detail.

I patterned the jacket with my black cigarette trousers and a white blouse – they are comfortable and give me a smart look that keeps me warm. I elevated the look with accessories like my laptop bag and flat loafers. It’s an easy, transitional work look that’s comfortable all day long.

For a date night with my husband

Dinner out, a cheeky cocktail, or just a walk without little ones in tow – it’s lovely to dress things up every now and then. The military jacket works beautifully over a midi dress, but if you want to keep it relaxed, wear it open over the lace-trimmed t-shirt and swap jeans for faux leather trousers or a sleek black skirt.

Add some layered jewellery, a red lip, and maybe heeled boots or loafers depending on where you’re headed. The jacket helps pull the outfit together, adding a bit of edge and elegance all at once. What trainers would you choose from Very to partner with this blazer?

A black jacket like this one is such a staple, especially at this time of year. It’s one of those pieces I find myself reaching for again and again – and with the right styling, it really can take you anywhere.

Get your jacket from Very, I would love to know which one you have gone for, in the comments below. If you have any more styling lips for this season, I would also love to know those too. Check out my other other fashion posts, for more inspiration this season.
