Are you toying with the notion of taking an online course or two but are apprehensive? Maybe youโ€™ve only taken in-person classes in the past and arenโ€™t sure how the whole โ€˜onlineโ€™ process works. Perhaps you donโ€™t consider yourself very tech-savvy and are afraid it will be too hard. I have really enjoyed online learning, I am doing a degree through the Open University and I love it.

Whatever the reason for your hesitation, rest assured youโ€™re not the only one who has felt this way. The good news is that taking online courses is easy and convenient, and many students of all ages have completed their studies without any significant hiccups. Below, weโ€™ll outline a few advantages of learning online instead of on campus.

1. Youโ€™ll Meet People from All Over the World

Learning online means youโ€™ll network with others from all over the world. The internet affords opportunities for foreign and domestic residents to attend almost any school in any country. This may open doors that might otherwise be unavailable to you, helping you further your education and career. You may even find a private online tutor or mentor who can guide and support your endeavors.

2. Flexibility

Taking classes online allows you to study when itโ€™s most convenient and comfortable. If youโ€™re more motivated and focused in the mornings, thatโ€™s when you can study. If you prefer to hit the books while sitting on the couch in front of a cozy fire, you can do that. There are no restrictions on time or place when it comes to learning online. You will never have to worry about missing a class or having to drive in a raging snowstorm.

3. Online Learning Enables You to Develop Healthy Habits

It takes discipline to take classes online. You must commit to motivating yourself to study each day. This dedication helps you manage your time and even stick to other healthy habits. For example, no one likes to squeeze in a workout before work or late at night, but when you take classes online, your schedule is flexible. You can work out in the middle of the day or even take a nap, both of which will refuel and energize your body and mind. Itโ€™s easy to stick with healthy habits when you arenโ€™t stressed about a lack of time.

4. There are More Course Options Online

When you take on-campus classes, you are limited to the courses the school offers or has professors to teach. While most of these classes will help you achieve a traditional degree, they often donโ€™t allow you to explore more abstract topics. When you decide to take your education online, however, you open up a plethora of courses not usually available to in-person students. This could lead to abundant opportunities in terms of career choice or even just hobbies and interests, as youโ€™ll be able to learn about virtually anything.

5. Going to School Online Is Usually Cheaper

When you take classes online, you simply pay a possible online application fee, tuition, and books. When you go to school in person, you are responsible for all these expenses, plus housing and transportation costs. Even at a glance, you can see that the overall cost of online learning is far less expensive than on-campus learning.

If you want to go back to school after a hiatus or youโ€™re a newly graduated teen trying to decide whether an online school is for you, consider the advantages listed above carefully, as they can help you decide which option is best for you.ย Don’t forget you will need to set up your work space too.
