What are you doing this May half term? For us (in Cambridgeshire) the May half term lands Monday 27th to the 31st May 2024. If you haven’t organised anything yet, read on, as I have put together some ideas on family fun adventure days. If you live too far away from Cambridgeshire then see if there is something similar near where you live.
Family camping trip
Why not take the kiddies on a fun family camping trip, whether that is in a camper van or family sized tent. There are so many beautiful campsites around the Norfolk coast, which isn’t far from Cambridgeshire. Like Kelling Heath or travel further afield and make a holiday out of it at Woolacoombe. We have always had fun camping and exploring the areas surrounding us. There is something about cooking on a camp fire, enjoying the sunsets and being out in the fresh air all day.
Theme parks
We went to Conkers about 7 years ago, it was fab then and so I can imagine it is just as fabulous now. It has lots of outdoor adventure areas from activity trails, splash park, playgrounds and a cool train ride. There is also indoor activities if the weather turns, indoor rope activities, 4D cinema and a soft play area. There is so much to do, we can’t wait to take the kiddies back here.
There is a lot to do around the Leicestershire area too, from Twin Lakes theme park which has an outdoor waterpark. Wicksteed park and Gulliver’s Land are not too far from Cambridgeshire and perfect for a family fun day out.
Indoor water park
If you are prepared to drive a little further afield our favorite indoor splash park, Water World, is not too far. It’s about an hours drive from Conkers, or 2 hours from Cambridgeshire. We absolutely love going here as there is so many water slides and the wave pool is fun, it keeps us entertained the entire session. There is a crazy golf area and a cafe inside the water park. Would you dare try the trap door slide?
Beach day
Do not underestimate the power of a day at the beach. Wells-next-the-sea or Sea Palling are fabulous beaches for the whole family, whatever the weather! We have made lots of happy memories at these beaches over the year. We sometimes take a disposable BBQ and have a little afternoon feast too.
Grafham or Rutland Water
You can spend a day at Grafham or Rutland Water. They both have huge lakes that you can walk around, areas where you can enter the water on a hot day and adventure playgrounds. They even have crazy golf and Rumble Live at both sites now, great outdoor fun for all the family. There are cafes and shops at both sites too, or take a picnic.
I would love to know if anyone has any fun ideas for May half term in the comments below, it might help inspire another family looking for family adventures.
