When Hubby and I got married, I said I would travel the world with him and that we would do it with the kiddies too. Hubby took a year out and travelled before we got together and I wanted to explore it, we just had jobs and then kids. It got harder to do. We are still on a mission to do this, it’s just a lifelong event. We keep a log of our adventures on our World Map. It’s such an inspiring canvas to have on the wall.

We keep our map in the dining room and it reminds us each mealtime of our adventures, what we have done and where we have been. It stimulates a lot of conversations too. Over lockdown, we have even used it as a way of exploring our planet. We ask the kids questions like “What is the largest Country?”, “What ocean is near us?” and questions about Continents. We also play games like naming Countries from A-Z which is really tricky. It really is a conversational starter and not just with us. When people visit us they often comment on it too.

I bought some cute pins and when we travel to somewhere new, as a family, we stick a pin in it. It’s a shame we didn’t get to check off Dubai this year but we will get there one day. As you can see we have visited quite a few places near and around Europe, we are yet to travel further afield with the kids. The furthest I have travelled is Malaysia, for our honeymoon. I loved Malaysia, it was a beautiful place.

Our World Map is from Lana KK, it is 100 x 70 cm. We chose the brown map as it looked vintage and we thought it would make a statement on the wall in the dining room. It certainly does that. I love it. You can get your own World Map for under £100, for the same size canvas. They do sell posters too if you do not want the canvas.

How do you capture your family travel adventures? Do you keep a canvas log or do you keep a journal? Where is next on your destination list? I would love to know in the comments below or on social media: @mummyconstant.
