We live in Cambridgeshire and we love going out on the Norfolk Broads – we do it whenever we get the chance. Little did we know how beautiful the river scenery is on our front doorstep and how easy it is to go on a boat trip. We hired a boat from Purvis Marina in Huntingdon on Saturday for a nice family day out – a birthday treat for Daddy.
For a day hire with Purvis Marina, for a 6-8 seater boat, it cost £100. We had the boat from 9am and could of have had it until 6pm, so that’s a good day out and a very reasonable price. We went from Huntingdon, round to St Ives and then back through Huntingdon up to Brampton Mill (my favourite place) and back to port again. It was a fantastic and relaxing day. The children enjoyed looking out for nature, animals and other people on their boats. Daddy enjoyed driving us around in the boat and getting us through the locks. Mummy enjoyed day dreaming about all the fabulous houses we saw along the way. It was a very calm and relaxing family day.
We stopped at lunchtime by Houghton Mill lock and had our picnic, we were greeted by a family of swans. The babies are so cute and they make such a cute sound. It reminded me of the sound those Vortex rugby ball shaped things make when they soar through the air. We saw a lot of wildlife, lots of things we just wouldn’t normally see unless we were on the river. The children had their colouring in, cars and we even stopped at the Hemingfords so the little ones could have a run.
We would definitely do it again. It’s funny as a lot of friends were shocked to find out we took the boat out in Huntingdon. I suppose unless you own a boat you might not know where you can get one from for a day’s hire. I would recommend it as a day out for the family, or a group of friends. Take plenty of things to do for the children and plenty of food/drink and you will have a fabulous day out.
