Often when people think about hearing loss they think about people being born deaf or losing their hearing due to infection or working in extremely loud environments for a long time.ย However, this is not necessarily the case hearing loss can occur from everyday activities that you may not think about. There are some common things that you may do every day that can cause hearing loss here is a look at some of them.ย

Watching a Movie

You may not think about it too much when you go to see a movie with your family, but movie theaters tend to be very loud especially when you’re watching an action film. The explosions and other sound effects can harm your hearing.

The noise levels at movie theaters are generally anywhere between 74 to 104 decimal decibels. This is very loud and can cause hearing loss.

It’s not just watching a movie that can cause noise-induced hearing loss. Going to a live concert can have the same effect.

It can be worse because concerts tend to go on longer than movies. Your exposure will be more intense for a longer time.

When you get home from a concert or a movie make sure that you give your ears at least half days rest from loud noises to protect your hearing

A Motorcycle Engine

If you love to hit the road on a motorcycle you’ve probably noticed that the engine can get very loud when it is turned on. That โ€œvroom vroomโ€ sound that you hear the motorcycle giving off is just as loud as a movie theater.

It is not surprising that it can cause noise-induced hearing loss. Protect your hearing by putting on your helmet to drown out some of the sounds.

Your Headphones

Maxing out your headphones is one of the quickest ways to damage your hearing. With so many people using them to get increase privacy while listening to audio especially around others there is a significant rise in hearing loss due to audio devices.

Audio devices when turned up to full volume can deliver the same high decibels as a movie theater. However, it is much worse because the sound is closer to the ear canal.

Sirens

Have you ever been driving on the road and heard an ambulance passing or a police car? The ear-piercing noise can produce up to 100 decibels.

Plugging your ears with your fingers may not be able to eliminate all the noise but it will take some of the stings, out of the sound until the vehicle passes.

Fireworks

Next time you catch a fireworks display you may want to plug your ears. Fireworks displays can cause noise-induced hearing loss.

If you have watched fireworks before you may have noticed that your hearing feels a bit off after watching the display. This is a sign that your ears are sensitive to the sound of the fireworks.

Preserve Your Hearing

Taking care of your hearing means you have to be conscious of the noise that you expose your hearing to. When you become aware of the things in your environment that can cause noise-induced hearing loss you should always actively try to protect yourself.

Remember, that hearing loss is usually permanent. This fact alone is the very reason why you cannot afford not to take care of your hearing.
