Prepare to launch into an adventurous or romantic escapade to discover some of the best islands in the Mediterranean. While the vast richness of the Mediterranean is indisputable, there are some fantastic and memorable places that must not be missed due to their exotic character, perfect climate, ancient history, special nightlife and unique natural habitat. From Spain to Greece, Morocco, Southern Italy and Malta there is something to enjoy for everyone and that is sure to satisfy any individual taste. I am looking forward to discovering some of these places when we go on our family cruise in August.

If you are planning a family vacation with kids, and enjoy water sports, Mallorca provides an exceptional experience for kids of all ages. Its many safe beaches provide several child-friendly activities, including Water skiing, snorkelling, diving, wind surfing, kayaking and boating. The shallow waters off Platja de Muro are perfect for children who can enjoy paddling as parents look on, and the best water sports can be found at Port de Alcudia or Cala Mesquida- surrounded by pine trees and sand dunes the latter is also perfect for hiking enthusiasts or for long romantic walks on the beach.

Cyprus is another choice for lovers of art and ancient civilizations. Byzantine Churches adorn the entire island, followed by some of the greatest Roman mosaics found in Paphos, the Roman ruins of Salamis, near Farmagusta, or the Byzantine Venetian castles of Kyrenia and Hilarion. And Santorini is the perfect romantic spot for couples- which its arabesque domed buildings and resorts, colourful architecture lining the streets of the small towns, cobalt blue waters, scenic cliffs, promontories  and sailing excursions from which to admire the mesmerizing sunset, the island is just dream-like.

Sicily of course remains the primary choice for a truly Mediterranean vacation in family. The island encompasses the best of what is found throughout the other islands, for the simple reason that it remains the largest island in the Mediterranean, and due to its historical legacy deriving from the ancient Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Spanish, Northern Europeans and North Africans, it has inherited the greatest variety of these ancient traditions that have molded it into an unparalleled cross-cultural melting pot. From the uncontaminated Vendicari, Nebrodi and Madonie natural parks to the beaches of Giardini Naxos (by Taormina), of the Gulf of Castellammare del Golfo, including of course the Agrigento coast; not forgetting the archaeological and artistic treasures of  the preserved Greco-Roman temples and theatres in Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples, of Taormina, Segesta and the Baroque Towns of Val di Noto in the South, the best collection of Roman Mosaics in Piazza Armerina or in Monreale and Cefalù, and the Greek treasures of Syracuse, Sicily truly has everything to satisfy every taste. And you can even stay at one of the many beautiful villas in Sicily by the sea that you can find through top resources like Wishsicily, that are sure to make your vacation even more enjoyable and  pleasant for the whole family .
