One of the first purchases we bought when we finished the garden patio is our garden furniture. Creating a special space in our gardens, for a Summer of lockdown easing, is on everyone’s to do list this Spring and Summer. There are lots of ways you can do this too, here is my plan for the next few months and how we are setting up our garden for a summer of family and friends time.

Choose your furniture

Firstly, you need to choose your furniture, we are lucky enough to have space for an outdoor sofa and dining set. Making sure you have weatherproof outdoor furniture is essential. You will need to ensure that it can be left outside and survive the harsh English weather conditions. We do not have space to put tables and chairs away in the evenings/Winter’s, so we had to make sure it was sturdy enough to be left outside.

Create a shaded area

This is one of the things we didn’t think about last year and we spent the Summer trying to find something to shade us on our new furniture. There are so many creative ways you can create shade in the garden, from; gazebos, pagoda’s and overhanging parasols. I do have my eye on the sail shades too, I think they will look brilliant and create a creative way of producing a sheltered area. Not everyone likes to sit in the sun and so it’s important to make sure this is thought about.

Pretty flowers and shrubs

I was lucky in that when we bought our home, we bought a 40-year-old garden with it. We have flowers and shrubs, trees and plants that have been growing for a lot of years. We have flowers that bloom in the Spring, Summer and later in the year too. It is lovely because there is always something pretty to look at. When entertaining it’s nice to have something pretty to look at, even if a few plants in pots on the patio. It also helps to frame the areas you have created in the garden.

Don’t forget the finishing touches

We have outdoor cushions, blankets for the sofa set and a couple of outdoor rugs to make sure the space feels comfortable, stylish and homely. If we are entertaining a lot in our gardens, they need to be right, and I think providing comfort and style will allow you to have a better dinner party in the garden.

Oh, and if you have little ones you might want to invest in some outdoor tableware so that you are not taking your china outside. Do you have any ideas on how to create a garden for Summer of lockdown easing? I would love to know in the comments below if you have any different ideas.
