It is no secret we are huge Disney fans and my ultimate dream holiday would be to go to Disneyworld, Florida. Hubby’s parents go every other year and they have given me some great tips for if we ever do book a trip there. I thought these might be helpful to you, so I scribbled them down.

Get a good deal

This seems like a no brainer, but getting a good deal is essential. You might think that buying everything in the package separately will work out cheaper – it doesn’t. You can buy plans that include the park tickets, Disney dollars, food and refillable cups. It might not seem important, until you get to the parks, but it really is better to book your Disney tickets before your holiday.  When friends of the family booked it all separately, in Florida, it worked out a lot more expensive.

Stay on site

Again, this might seem a more expensive option but the benefits of staying onsite far-out way staying off. Onsite you can travel around for free as there is a shuttle system on the complex that acts like an underground service – a bus arrives at your complex regularly and takes you where you need to go. There are many modes of transport around the parks from monorail, ferry boat to the new skyline at Caribbean beach resort. When staying off site you have to drive everywhere which can be quite stressful on the larger American roads and not only that it can cost around $25 a day to use the car parks.

Not only do you get the benefits above, you can get in the parks early which means no long queues – run to your favourite ride and beat the wait!

Hire a car

Following on from the above, hiring a car can give you a little freedom. If you hire a car in your package you can park it at the resort for free (saving you that $25 a day) and not only that you have the opportunity to drive somewhere for the day if you want. There are so many fab places around Florida to visit and the shopping malls are something you must try out (so I have been told). I think I would burst if we ever book a holiday to Florida.

Make sure you get the fast passes

These are very popular, similar to English theme parks, where you get to skip the queues and get straight on the rides. Make sure these are included in your holiday package – they have changed the way these work recently which means you have to book the rides and times before you fly. This means you have to think about your trip and make sure you plan it accurately so that you do not miss the times you have booked. Don’t worry it’s not exact – you get an hour’s leeway for the ride time.

That leads me nicely onto;

Make a plan

Doing your research before you travel is a must. With over 4 parks and 2 swimming parks, fast passes and the option to drive to shopping malls you will need to be prepared. The 4 parks are: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios. Then the 2 water parks are: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. They all sound amazing. My kids love water parks – we could spend a week in the water parks alone!

This year the new Star Wars area opens at Disneyworld, Florida, so if you are Star Wars fan then you may need to plan your trip so that you get to check it out. I am looking forward to hearing all about the new area from Dean’s parents – please note you cannot book fast passes for this area yet (as its new)!

Try the early check out

If your holiday package allows for it, definitely make the most out of the early check out. When you reach your last day of the holiday, I know what a horrid thought, you can leave your suitcases with the airline in the morning and you do not see your suitcases again until you get to England. Amazing! The major benefit to this is that you get to stay in the park for an extra few hours as you have nothing to check in at the airport… such a great idea.

I hope these tips are helpful, I will definitely use them if we ever book a holiday to Disneyworld, Florida. It has been a dream of mine since I was little. I hope we can take the children one day, definitely high up on my bucket list. If you have any tips on booking a holiday to Disneyworld I would love to hear them in the comments below.
