How lovely is it to know that if your friends or family sleepover in your home, you are able to accommodate them with a beautiful guest bedroom? If you have guests to stay regularly, then sprucing it all up and ensuring that you have the right guest room items is a must! You need to ensure that your guests are comfortable, and sometimes that means putting a little bit more cash into planning the perfect restful space for them to relax in. It should feel like a home away from home, with little touches to let your friends know that you care about their opinion of your home.

It’s not just about providing a bed for the night. Security and comfort are as key as the ready assembled chest of drawers that you buy so that you don’t have to spend the time putting it all together. Stocking up the guest bedroom with the essentials is a must, and we’ve got five of those essentials for you below:

  • Piles Of Extras. Sure, you need the big ticket items like bedside tables, wardrobes and a bed, but you also need to have a good stock of extra things so that your guest never has to ask for anything. Keep a stack of towels, spare pillows and blankets in the wardrobe so that they can pick and choose whether they want extra layers. Roll towels up hotel-style and add the towels to a basket by the door, and you could even get a proper trunk for the room to store the linen.
  • Maximise Space. Choosing minimal furniture to make the room look bigger offers the feeling of luxury to your guests. You need a bed and clothing storage, but think about a squashy chair and lamp to read in in the corner. Where possible, get rid of all the added things that take up floor space that aren’t needed. For example, a shelf on the wall next to the bed over a bedside table is a better idea! Mount radiators further up the wall, too, so that you can make the most of the available floor space. Floating shelves for books are also better than bookshelves, and you can fill these with books and magazines that are current!
  • Choose Quality. From the rugs on the floor to the mattress on the bed, go for the items that are high quality. No one wants to use an old, worn out bed with rusty springs sticking out of it. A high quality mattress doesn’t have to break the bank, either, so don’t be afraid to shop around a little. People will always appreciate a mattress that makes them feel comfortable, and you can add a good quality memory foam topper, too, for added comfort.
  • Basic Toiletries. Next to the basket of rolled up towels, it’s a smart idea to add a small basket of toiletry products to the room. These are a cute little gesture but if your guest has not brought anything with them, it’s a smart one! Basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and soap along with a small toothbrush and paste will be a wonderful addition to the room.
