We are huge fans of How to train your dragon and we recently went to see the new movie at the Cinema. It was fabulous and couldn’t wait to try the new game the next day; Dragons: Dawn of the new riders is a great game for the family as there is a little bit of everything for everyone. You can watch the trailer online.

We sat around, and the children took it in turns to play, it isn’t 2 player, but we all joined in with help and support. We met a new character called Scribbler and we are basically him trying to complete quests that Hiccup set us up with at the beginning. Scribbler has lost his memory and we need to help him. Along with his new hybrid Dragon: Patch.

I really enjoyed watching the children play it as they had to read all of the instructions. They learnt to read some big words and read really quickly to get through to each new part of the game. The game is aimed at children over 5 and I can understand why, the reading element would make it tricky for a child who cannot read to play it.

There are battles you have to complete when you are walking around the new locations. Each time you win a battle you unlock powerful abilities. My favourite part of the game is the puzzle element. There are lots of puzzles to complete and you can do them as Scribbler or Patch – making it good to help the children understand logic.

It’s great fun watching the children walk around the land and find more puzzles and locations to explore. Isla was a little upset that she didn’t get to be a light fury, but I explained this game is all about a new character and hybrid dragon. They loved the fact they saw night fury and Hiccup at the beginning.

You can get this game for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. We love playing games on our Xbox One as a family – it’s nice to sit and work things out together.

Have you seen the new movie yet; How to train your dragon: Hidden world? It is amazing and I would recommend it, especially if you have seen the other 2 movies. I warn you though, it was a tear jerker.
