The idea of packing for your travelling adventures is both exciting and extremely overwhelming. So as a budding traveller, it’s something you might be tempted to put off until the last minute. From toiletries to sanitary items, what clothes, how many pairs of shoes, what kind of clothing is best, what about your personal items? The list is seemingly endless, but don’t worry. If you’re wondering where to start, just read on for some super simple and helpful packing tips to that will get you started.

Remember – if you’re heading off travelling, you need to remember to invest in some travel insurance. If you’re unsure of what you might need, check out UHC Safe Trip for the latest information.

Your clothes

If you’re travelling to the far east or India then you might not need to worry about having a full wardrobe with you. If you’re in a pinch, you can always pick up some clothing from a market which will be incredibly cheap. If you’re heading to Europe, you might need to plan in advance.

For hotter climates we recommend:

  • 5-6 Basic tank tops or sleeveless tops that will mix and match with various other items
  • 2-3 Pairs of cotton shorts – avoiding denim which takes too long to dry and isn’t comfortable when you’re hot and sweaty.
  • 2 long skirts/dresses for when you’re visiting conservative areas, or places of religious importance (temples etc).
  • 2 pairs of basic leggings or cotton trousers. Whichever you prefer
  • 10 pairs of whatever underwear is most comfortable for you in hot weather
  • 2 pairs of thin socks
  • If you’re going up mountains or long walks we recommend a pair of hiking boots or sturdy shoes.
  • A pair of flip flops or sandals for day wear
  • A hat

If you’re travelling to places with varying levels of warm and cool weather, then add some long sleeved tops, a waterproof jacket, a pair of trainers to wear when travelling, jeans and more socks.

Toiletries

You’ll discover that finding toiletries is pretty easy whilst you’re travelling. Even in remote areas there will be the basics available, but just in case you should consider bringing:

  • A toiletry bag with a hook that you can hang up
  • A shampoo & conditioner bar (you can purchase these with tins to put them in – they take up less space than big bulky bottles and they’re kinder to the environment)
  • A body wash bar. See above
  • A roll on deodorant. Again these take up less space
  • A wash cloth
  • Contraception/pill – that will last the length of your trip!
  • Travel first aid kit
  • Extra contact lenses from Pure Optical
  • Sunscreen
  • Menstrual cup – these are more environmentally friendly, and you won’t need to worry about locating tampons and pads while you’re on the road. Why not practice with one before you go?
  • Travel razor
  • Basic makeup – if you want to wear it on the occasional evening
  • A small hairbrush
  • Moisturiser for your skin
  • Lip balm
  • Hand sanitiser

This is a very basic list, which you can omit and add too, depending on the length of your trip and your destination. Good luck!

I really love your “For hotter climates we recommend” topic. A successful vacation depends on a complete travel packing list. Your list is enough to make a great vacation.
