Renovating a house with a budget isn’t an easy task. Especially if you want to change a large factor such as the floor, which can really eat into your funds and as a result can mean not having enough to spend on other things you might have liked to change. On top of this ideally you don’t just want something that looks great, but something that’s going to last too, especially if you’re shelling a lot out on it. In this post we aim to bring you floors that are not only durable and aesthetically pleasing, but that are also kind on your wallet.

Laminate Flooring

If you love the look of solid wood but you can’t afford the real thing, search no more! You’d be surprised at the range of cheap laminate flooring available on todays market. This floor looks like its hardwood counterpart, but is much more resistant to scratches and scuffs, and is also waterproof. Due to these qualities we would highly recommend laminate as a family friendly floor. You know what it can be like where children are involved, for something so small they can cause a lot of damage. But the beauty of laminate means you wont have to worry about any spillage they could cause, as long as you clean it straight away, there’s no threat of staining or the floor becoming damaged. As mentioned previously, laminate is pretty much resistant to scratching, making it perfect for a home with heavy foot traffic.

Laminate can also help cut costs if you’re a bit of a DIY fan, this is because it is very easy to install so if you feel confident enough you can always cut the fee of a fitter and do it yourself. Again, laminate is a perfect alternative to real wood because it can imitate so many different surfaces but comes in at over half the price!

Engineered flooring

This is a bit more expensive than laminate flooring, but it does look exactly like solid wood. So if you don’t mind to spending a bit more in order to get a perfect imitation of hardwood, this is the floor for you! Not only is engineered wood cheaper than solid wood but because of its construction, it allows greater stability. It also withstands better moisture and temperature fluctuations, meaning that unlike solid wood  it will not expand or contract. However if you do have children or are a bit clumsy yourself, then you should be aware that it does not tolerate spillages as well as laminate flooring.

Vinyl Flooring

If you’re looking for something a little cheaper then you could always consider vinyl as an alternative. Aesthetically it does look cheap when compared to laminate flooring, however it is fully resistant to any scratches and scuffs, plus if it is well installed it can last up to 20 years! As well as being incredibly good value for money in terms of longevity, vinyl flooring is also incredibly easy to care and maintain. Unlike wood flooring that may need refinishing, once vinyl is installed it’s good to go!

While we certainly can’t make the choice for you, we hope this post will help act as guidance and make that choice a little bit easier for you in the long run!
