No matter what, we all have a family. From our parents, grandparents, siblings and extended family right through to our partners, children and grandchildren of our own in later life, family plays an important role throughout the course of life.

Our family is a vital support network, one which provides us with all-important love, care, sympathy and words of kindness. Families should be there to help you out in your time of need – after all, who else will know you better than your close family!

Once you start to think about it, there are many things that your family members do for you each and every day. They may just be small things which usually go under the radar, but when you really stop and pay attention, there are many reasons why you should appreciate your loved ones and be thankful for your family.

Here are just a few reasons to put aside the usual squabbles and arguments and instead, show those closest to you just how much you love and care for them.

Laughter

From recounting childhood tales to inside jokes, families can bring a unique sense of enjoyment to everyday life. After all, your family members are the people who have known you the longest, and this special bond is sure to bring its fair share of fun, games and laughter.

Love

We all know the old saying that blood is thicker than water, but it’s true that your family will always have your back. No matter what happens, your closest family members will always love you unconditionally – something to remember on those tough days when you feel like giving up.

Memories

Another bonus of having known someone for your entire life is that you will have countless memories of good times spent together. From childhood fun to family holidays and being there for each other through the highs and the lows, your shared memories will be a true treasure trove of happy times.

Support

When you are feeling low, you’ve had a tough day or things just aren’t going your way, it can be hard to find the positives. In times like these, your family will come into their own and will always have your back. They can visit and help out feeding the baby or change a diaper, when you are feeling overwhelmed. Or provide a shoulder to cry on, or just being there for a hug, a cup of tea and a chat to talk things through, the support of a family is never-ending.

Guidance

Finding yourself stuck in a tricky situation or at a crossroads in life is just one of the things that make us human. When we aren’t quite sure of the best course to take or how we should proceed, our family will be sure to help guide us in the right direction. After all, sometimes all we need is a friendly face and an ear to listen to prompt us into making the right decision which we should have made all along.

Of course, the world isn’t a perfect place, and sometimes we don’t all have the same good fortune to share. Across the world, people lose family members and loved ones every day – a sad fact of life. Even in our own country, orphans must face the world without a family behind them, let alone in parts of the world where conflict is rife. Muslim charity organisations are doing what they can to provide a vital support network for people in need across the world. We are fortunate enough to have all the support of a family behind us, and through the Syria appeal, the aim is to provide essential support for lonely and vulnerable people who need it most.

Wherever you are in the world, one thing is for certain – now is the perfect time to show your family just how much you appreciate them!
