It’s a topic that most parents would hopefully never need to give much thought to. Most parents would never wish to experience the fear and worry that accompanies seeing their child through a hospital stay. Recent high profile cases surrounding children with brain injury in particular have brought the conversation about parents rights into the public consciousness. It is really upsetting to hear about these stories in the news, it really got me thinking about what I would do in these situations.
To celebrate National Sandwich Week, Num Noms sent Isla a special sandwich making challenge. Isla had to make her favourite sandwich concoction that resembled her favourite Num Noms. She loves all of the Num Noms range, but her favourite at the moment is the Polish-It Noms.
Isla loves doing peoples hair, she spends hours brushing her hair and trying to put it in ponytails or plaits. That’s where Shnooks come in really handy, she can style their hair in many different ways. We love all the hand bands and combs that come with each Shnook. Not only that, but they smell delicious!
What better way to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day (27th January) than to bake our very own chocolate cake. Inspired by Isla’s love of Num Noms. We received a hamper of goodies to decorate our cakes and a Series 4 deluxe pack of Num Noms. Isla was very, very excited. Below is Isla’s creation (one vegetarian and one not):
Educational games are extremely popular with parents right now; kids get to enjoy playtime, while their parents rest assured that they are still learning something useful. But even though most of these fun, educational games involve computers and technology, that doesn’t mean that classic children’s games have nothing valuable to teach your children. Granted, some games should be avoided for the sake of keeping peace within the family – Monopoly comes to mind – but there are other classic games that still teach your children timeless lessons.
I like to set myself tasks, sometimes they are tiny things and sometimes very large tasks. The Summer Holidays are great as there is no rushing around on the school runs. This usually means I can get more done, as I am around the home a bit more than term time. With that in mind, I have a mini bucket list of things to do in the Summer Holidays around our family home. Some of these tasks would be a fun thing to do with the kiddies too.
I have been looking at houses for what feels like years now, trying to find the right house for our family. They are either too small, or too dark, too new or not enough “toy space”. One thing I have been focussed on though is the garden. I want the right garden, no negotiations. It has to be a big garden. It has to have space for the children to play, the grown ups to relax and the furbabies to run around. Quite a large list and quite impossible with our budget.
With a little girls fifth birthday coming up in a few weeks, I thought it would be fitting to find out what fabulous toys Chad Valley have to offer. There are quite literally tonnes of fabulous toys on the Argos website under the Chad Valley filter. So much choice. my instinct reaction was to delve straight into the role playing area though. She has a curved wooden kitchen and a poorly pet healthy and grooming kit, both great value and hours of fun!
Do you enjoy family walks? Are you going on a weekend break where you might be outdoors? It could even be on the walk to school or a trip to the shops! You will almost certainly need a go to jacket for the children. This British weather can never be a guarantee and we always carry weatherproof jackets in the car. Berghaus recently launched a new range of jackets for children aged 3-13 and they sent Noah & Isla matching jackets to review, you can find their range of kids clothing on the Blacks website.
It may not be something that you have given much thought to in the past, but if you are looking to get married, you should make sure that you choose your wedding rings carefully. I loved shopping for our wedding rings, they were perfect for us! There are some excellent ideas for wedding rings on Pinterest.com that you may wish to consider, although not all of them would be practical. You will want to take into account the wear and tear of everyday life that the ring will go through, and choose a ring that is going to be practical.
At House of Fraser there are a wonderful collection of eight beautiful dresses from Disney, its called The Boutique Collection. They are great for little girls dress up and party wear. I love the dresses, they are so beautiful and would be perfect for Isla’s birthday in May.
The children love the Robin’s Winter Song book, it is a great story detailing the changes into Winter and from. From the perspective of a little Robin. It’s nice because at the end of the book the children always comment on how the Robin is happy now and not afraid. It’s a very uplifting story. We’ve been reading it a lot lately with all this talk of snow.
If you have ever tried to enlist the services of a Sydney plumber when the weather is bad you will know that it’s not always the easiest task. Inclement weather tends to bring about more than its fair share of bursts and blockages which can adversely affect the plumbing of any home. This means that it can be difficult to find a plumber who is available to help.
We had a very lucky invitation to see the premiere of “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” last night at ODEON in Milton Keynes. I had only seen the trailer for the movie beforehand, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it was amazing and now I want to own creatures to have at home, as pets. It is absolutely captivating and you get sucked in straight away.
At the end of October I announced that we are working alongside Argos on the Chad Valley play panel. If you haven’t already make sure you enter the fabulous competition to win 75 worth of Argos vouchers. Today we are off on a mini adventure for half term. Not far away, but far enough away to make it a mini break. The stay, play and explore offer is great for families to go and enjoy the sites of Leicestershire and it includes an overnight stay too. A perfect way to spend some quality time together and do something different.
Isla was recently sent a rather fun hospital bag set from Doc McStuffins, it matches the one that Dottie uses in the TV show. Isla loved fixing all of her dollies and making the YouTube video (featured below). It created an entire hour of imaginative play when Isla first opened the set, she used all the items on all of her Disney dolls. You could see her really get into the role of Doctor.
Noah received a great book from the people that create the lost my name book. The incredible intergalactic journey home is a fantastic, personalised book, which has Noah’s name written in the stars and has an aerial shot of our neighbourhood. It is amazing.
Fireman Sam’s fire station burned down in 2015 and he has a brand new one in the TV series. This new toy is the first one of this new fire station and replicates the one in the show. Noah loves the fact that he can play Fireman Sam just like the show. You can get this new set from www.character-online.com.
Isla recently received a wonderful Princess Peppa Carraige toy, Isla loved it because it was Peppa Pig but she is a princess Peppa. What a great idea! Princess Peppa is off to the ball in her beautiful free-wheeling carriage! I have always wondered if they would do a girlie version of the Peppa Pig range, so this Princess range is perfect.
I love puzzles and thankfully so does little Isla, even Noah enjoys doing the odd puzzle. The feeling of accomplishment and getting the brain ticking is what does it for me. We jumped at the chance to review the new Finding Dory puzzles from Ravensburger. I cannot wait to see this film!
As you may have noticed across my social media channels, it was our wedding anniversary on Monday. Hubby and I had an extremely lucky opportunity. Not only did we get a weekend of no children and no pets (actual alone time). Sometimes its not all about the family activities. Sometimes you need a bit of grown up time. We got to spend our weekend at the most fantastic place, with great food and a beautiful room: Bosworth Hall and Spa. Bosworth Hall and spa is a fabulous hotel owned by Britannia Hotels. We had such a lovely weekend relaxing, but making the most out of the hotel and spa facilities. It was the perfect way to spend our anniversary weekend.
Noah and Isla received a couple of the new classic Peppa Pig toys recently. They love Peppa Pig and have got into it more so over the past year. They love sitting and watching Peppa Pig together, its the one thing that the children do not argue over. Which is always nice. We love laughing at the end of the episodes with the Pig family and so to receive the laughing Peppa Pig was a bonus. It made us giggle just like they do in the program.
